Florida Cosmetology HIV/AIDS Education Course & Exam

Initial License - 4 Hours
This course is for anyone applying for a Florida Cosmetologist license. Completion of a Board-Approved 4-Hour HIV/AIDs course is required to be granted your initial Cosmetology license in the state of Florida.

License Renewal - 2 Hours
All specialists under the board of cosmetology, including Nail Technicians, Body Wrappers, Hair Wrappers, Full Specialists & Hair must complete 2 hours of approved continuing education before the expiration of their renewal cycle.

The objective for the continuing education is to instruct and inform regarding the subject of HIV and AIDS, as well as any other communicable diseases that they may potentially encounter in their work environment. Topics Include:

  • How to recognize the modes of transmission for HIV/AIDS and other communicable diseases
  • How to understand infection control procedures, clinical management and prevention of HIV/AIDS and other communicable diseases
  • Next steps to take for an HIV-positive individual
  • Anti-HIV medications - what they are, how they function, and what a treatment regimen looks like
  • Additional resources and materials available for the HIV-positive or AIDS patient
  • How to develop an appropriate attitude when dealing with persons who may have HIV/AIDS or other communicable diseases

Course Details

Florida Barbers HIV/AIDS Education Course & Exam

Initial License - 2 Hours:
This course if for anyone applying for a Florida Barber's license. Completion of a Board-Approved 2-Hour HIV/AIDS course is required to be granted your initial Barber license in the state of Florida.

License Renewal - 2 Hours
All Barbers, Restricted Barbers and Barber's Assistants must complete 2 hours of approved continuing education before the expiration of every renewal cycle.
