Florida Learner's Permit Practice Test

To earn a Florida learner's permit (also known as a learner's license), you must pass the learner's permit test. Officially known as the Class E Knowledge Exam, the test covers vital topics related to Florida driving laws and safe driving techniques.

To prepare yourself for the learner's permit exam and test your knowledge of the material, consider taking a free DMV practice test online. The quiz features 20 questions and provides full answers and explanations once you finish.

Florida residents under 18 can take the learner's permit test online. You can also visit a Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) location to take the Class E Knowledge Exam in person.

Regardless of whether you take the exam online or in person, it is a good idea to practice ahead of time. Studying your driver's license handbook and familiarizing yourself with the types of questions you will see on the exam will greatly improve your likelihood of passing the test and earning your learner's permit.

What to Expect on the Learner's Permit Test

The Class E Knowledge Exam contains 50 multiple-choice questions. You can take the exam online using your computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone.

You must score at least 80 percent to pass. That requires you to get a minimum of 40 out of 50 questions correct. If you fail the test, you must take it again to get your permit.

The test covers a wide range of topics from the Official Florida Driver License Handbook, including Florida traffic laws, traffic controls and safe driving practices.

Other topics covered in the exam include:

  • Insurance requirements
  • Seat belt laws
  • Speed limits
  • Making turns
  • Yielding the right of way
  • Headlight use
  • Turn signaling
  • Vehicle control
  • Maintaining attention
  • Lane control
  • Vehicle restrictions
  • Parking
  • Licensing

It is crucial that you know and understand the topics in your driver handbook. This knowledge can help you avoid traffic tickets and prevent accidents, injuries and deaths on the road.
